This weekend I attended my childhood friend Howies’ son Jessie’s’ Bar-Mitzvah. It was kind of poignant; I can still recall Howies’ Bar-Mitzvah. At one point of the service called “Ashrei” the Rabbi gave an explanation of the prayer. She explained that the word “Ashrei” is a form of the word that means “happy”. She told us that when we partook in “Ashrei” we were to imagine what it would be like to be free of all our anxiety and neurosis. She then asked us, “What do you feel inside, when the anxiety and neurosis are gone; what is left?”
What Do You Feel; & What’s Left?
Our neurosis, anxieties, and fears are part of us, but they are not who we are. The more time we spend getting to know and connect with “what’s left” the less our neurosis, fears and anxieties control and shape our lives. We also begin to realize that our happiness doesn’t come from the outside, that a new car or home, for example will only bring us happiness for a little while. True happiness comes from within. We all have different ways to connect with that special part of ourselves. Some of us journal; some of us pray; others meditate, and others spend time in nature. If you want to have a meaningful relationship with someone, it’s imperative to spend some “one on one” time with them. If you want to have a deeper connection with yourself it’s imperative to have some quiet alone time as well. Getting adjusted is also powerful tool to help you connect with what’s buried deep under a lifetime of tension and stress! My driving motivation for being a chiropractor is not to rid people of back pain (though it’s great that adjustments help) but to assist us all in connecting with who we truly are!
Here at Lester Chiropractic we have some great workshops that are designed to help introduce us to tools that can help enrich our lives, so we can be healthier and happier. I hope to see you all at our workshops sometime, so we can explore and learn together!
Love you all!
